PASSAGE

The starting point of the project is my grandfather’s migratory experience, viewed through the lens of his immigration at the turn of the twentieth century. At the age of fifteen, he departed Italy on foot in pursuit of employment in Switzerland.

The incorporation of maps within the artwork symbolises both the practical necessity of navigation in unfamiliar territory and the broader existential search for a place of belonging. The lines and arrows sewn on the maps suggest the search for trajectories in the process of migration and resettlement.
